Thx Arduinna. I've stopped pugging the FOW because I'm sick of arguing with pugs about this stupid Urban Myth. I've taken the quest plenty of times at the beginning and it doesn't hurt anything. If someone tries to tell you differently, it's just because they're a noob who is simply echoing stuff they heard from other pugs without verifying it themselves.
I'm sure I'll get flamed here for saying that. I usually do. The typical response is: "OMG!!! YOU NOOB!!!!! YOU DON'T TAKE QUESTS IN FOW AND UW!!! STUPID NOOB!! UR ON MY IGNORE LIST. I NEVER TAKE YOU IN UW EVER!!!!!!!"
So before you post with that response, please read Arduinna's and my post again. Taking the quest from Rastigan at the start of FOW is safe. UW? Well that''s a different issue.

Yeah, about everyone believed that for a while. Back then vereta's sac hadn't been nerfed and you could heal fine without use of heal area.

Sorry bro but thats true. I had EotN before I got Factions, and I had 3 storage slots. Then after getting Factions, I still had 3. So it does add one if you dont already have the 3 campaigns, and 3 is the max.
Unless your post was sarcasm. I couldnt tell.

That I don't know. I know for a fact he can get killed when the first mob wanders to close to the starting area while players are loading into FoW. But this is basically aggroing that mob, and leading them to Rastigan.
I've always made sure to clear the right mob at the spawn point, because those mobs tends to get a bit close to Rastigan. But if he can aggro a mob all himself...
Hmmm....might just blow another k to test this

Yeah see, that's part of the reason why the noobs get so paranoid. They figure, the later he starts running, the safer it is. IMO, he's so dang close they should make it where it can't be targeted until after someone takes the quest but meh.

Learned a new one yesterday;
Supposedly if you go farm like FoW, UW or a Dungeon and you have to many gold items in your inventory it greatly decreases your chances of getting gold drops.
I went on a dungeon run yesterday, and at the start one party member dropped 8-10 gold items from his inventory on the ground. When asked why he dropped them all that is what he told me.
You know what?
I picked up several of those golds so I could vendor them after the run and I did not get a single gold drop on that run except from the Boss chest.
Coincidence?
Maybe, then again maybe not.

Nope - gotta be more than that. I killed everything around the tower and he did not move until the last patrol was dead and I started back to him.
Don't know what the trigger is, although it has nothing to do with talking to him.
Merely engaging a patrol doesn't seem to trigger his movement. I ran to the tower and started hitting an abyssal then a ranger - didn't move.
I ran all the way around the tower and agroed every patrol.
Stood on the hill where I could see him, with Abyssals all around me and started fighting, i think I killed one - still didn't move.
Resigned, Re-entered, Talked to him then did the same - didn't move.
The only time he moved for me was when I had killed all the patrols around the tower.
So, I don't know. Maybe you have to kill the one particular patrol and Arduinna happened to kill it first while I killed it last.
Edit after about 10 spent on trying out FOW: Bingo - that's it. You have to kill the first group on the right AND a player must be within visual range (just outside of radar ranger) to trigger his movement. You can talk to him and/or kill all the other patrols and he won't budge. You can kill the other patrols and walk clear back to him and he won't move. You can kill the trigger patrol and as long as you are far enough away, he won't move a muscle until you get just within visual range (and by visual, I mean you may not even see him, just kind of a green blur that marks where he is). You can even kill two members of that patrol and nothing will happen as long as the third is still alive.
So clear the area and kill the patrol in a clockwise manner saving the one group till last and everything will be hunky dory. but talking to him doesnt change a thing.

Yup, I killed that one group first, thereby triggering Rastigan. I would then go counter clockwise, killing the rest of the patrols.
Thanks for clearing it up, saved me a few k

nice thread, i love me a good conspiracy theory
I remember back when GW first came out I was doing a quest near Maguuma Stade and this one guy got like 4 golds in a row, or something like that. And needless to say a party member cried hacking. What a coincidence because another party member was playing on behalf of Anet.
I still wonder if that guy got investigated...

There is a secret move, that when you ctrl+click on your character and type really fast a rare drop that you want (such as ecto, obsidian shards, diamonds, rubies, etc), will create a special, unique move for your character, and it will appear in chat as: <Character's name>s Mark of <wanted item>
If you time it all correctly, the item you asked for will drop within the next 5 monsters you and/or your party kills!
Me and my friend tried this, and it's true! It was very hard, but it worked after a few tries, you just need to practice a lot so you can get the timing perfectly.
We had so much fun with this one. We showed the image to some friends, and they were all trying to get it right, resulting in the whole party yelling and trying to ctrl+click on their characters for half an hour. So funny!
